Downtown Kingsport

MeadowView, East Stone Commons, West Stone Drive, Fort Henry Mall and Kingsport Pavilion aren’t the only areas of Kingsport that are experiencing growth and redevelopment.

There have been $9.1 million in property sales in Downtown Kingsport between Feb 2004 and Feb 2007 (reported through real estate sales records).

During the same time period, there was $5.2 million in construction value reported through public building permits for those properties only.

That’s $14.3 million invested in Downtown Kingsport over a 3 year period for restaurants, lofts, coffee shops, etc.*

*Does not include churches, industrial, or medical construction permits in the vicinity of Holston Valley Hospital, or construction associated with buildings that were not sold within the past 3 years.

Just as a follow-up to an earlier email. You, too, can sign up for this daily job alert for any zip code in America.

The real purpose of this email is raise awareness that there are 3,179 unfilled jobs advertised within 25 miles of Kingsport (as of 3/21/07).

There seems to be a common misperception that there are few jobs available. The real problem seems to lie in matching “required skills” to “jobs available”.

The Kingsport Board of Mayor & Aldermen’s action last night to authorize a new Higher Education Center will eventually go a long way towards providing those skills.

In the mean time you don’t have to wait. Remember that King College, Northeast State and ETSU all have a presence in Kingsport RIGHT NOW!! LMU is coming this fall. Other institutions will join in soon!
